I am Troy Davis & You are Too

I am Troy Davis and you are too. You ask who is Troy Davis and why should you care? Troy Davis was a former death row inmate executed on Wednesday September 21, 2011 at approximately 11:08am in the State of Georgia. He was arrested in 1989 and tried in that State in 1991 for the murder of off duty Savannah Georgia police officer Mark MacPhail. Davis 42, fought courageously until the music stopped telling anyone who would listen that Georgia authorities had the wrong man. His situation was eerily similar to many others and it polarized the nation. "I am innocent. The incident that happened that night is not my fault. I did not have a gun. All I can ask ... is that you look deeper into this case so that you really can finally see the truth," said Davis who was quoted in the Sydney Morning Herald. Despite having millions of supporters across the globe including former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Pope Benedict XVI, former FBI director William Sessions, and many in the hip hop music community in the end no court would set the man free. A dark cloud of too much doubt hovered over Davis' case from the beginning. There was never any murder weapon found, many of the witnesses in Davis' trial later recanted their initial testimony, and many have come forward saying another man may have actually killed MacPhail that evening. Davis was pronounced dead by lethal injection in the State of Georgia on Wednesday September 21, 2011 at 11:08am. In the U.S. according to the DPIC 138 people have been released from death row with evidence of their innocence since 1973, I am Troy Davis and you are too. Thousands of people are wrongfully convicted of crimes in the U.S. Each year, I am Troy Davis and you are too. False confessions/incriminating statements, eyewitness miss identification, improper forensic science, and improper information from informants are the leading causes of wrongful convictions, I am Troy Davis and you are too. You See Troy Davis could have been any one of us. All it takes is one unfortunate situation, an instant, and a case of their words against mine to change my life and yours forever. I am Troy Davis and you are too. R.I.P. TROY DAVIS
