NY Renews coalition calls on the NYS Legislature to pass historic bill to combat climate change, create good jobs, and reinvest in disadvantaged communities
NY Renews, a statewide coalition of nearly 60 environmental justice, labor, community-based and environmental organizations, is calling on all New Yorkers to Stand Together for Climate, Jobs, and Justice at a rally in Albany on June 1st and is demanding bold action by the NYS Legislature to pass historic legislation introduced by the NYS Assembly this past Monday - the Climate and Community Protection Act (A.10342). The bill, co-sponsored by Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes, seeks to codify New York State’s transition to 100% renewable energy and the elimination of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. It will create high road labor and training standards in emerging clean energy sectors for public works projects and projects receiving public subsidies in order to ensure green jobs are good jobs. And it will require that 40% of clean energy funds in the state get reinvested in disadvantaged communities or in projects that directly benefit those communities.
