Tuesday afternoon at 4pm, 9 PUSH members and staff headed down to City Hall to attend a public hearing on the contract renewal of American Water Systems.
PUSH was determined to make it clear that the people of Buffalo have the right to water at reasonable rates without predatory fees. We wanted to let the Buffalo Water Board know we will no longer stand for punitive rates and loopholes which allow American Water Systems to profit on the backs of some of the poorest people in the country.
PUSH calls on Buffalo's Common Council to not renew the American Water Systems contract for another two years, to put pressure on the Water Board to reform their rules and regulations so homeowners are not buried by excessive fees, and to investigate the feasibility of a fully public water utility.
